Questions

What DPI do I need for a print?

300 DPI is the standard for sharp prints viewed up close (photo books, small prints). 240 DPI is excellent for most wall prints. 150 DPI is fine for large prints viewed from a distance, like posters.

How many megapixels do I need to print big?

At 300 DPI, a 24-megapixel image prints beautifully to about 13×20 inches. For larger prints you rely on normal viewing distance — a 24MP file makes a great 24×36 poster at ~150 DPI.
